THE 1890 MAYNARD- BREECH-LOADING FIREARMS

The Maynard was a unique arm for many reasons and by 1890 the advertising experts at Massachusetts Arms had decided that the interchangeable barrel feature was the most saleable. This catalog trumpets that fact with the following exclamations:

"The manufacturers of the famous Maynard Hunting, Sporting and Target Rifles and Shotguns, in presenting to the public their illustrated and revised Catalogue, would respectfully call the attention of those interested in the admirers of superior Firearms, to certain distinctive features of the Maynard, viz:

INTERCHANGIN BARRELS,

SIMPLICITY, COMPACTNESS,

SYMMETRY, ACCURACY,

SAFETY AND DURABILITY,

As well as to certain improvements and desirable additions made to its already very complete list of barrels and appendages.

The simplicity of these Arms is an important feature. The compactness and portability of them should receive special notice, as the stock can be detached from the barrel in less time than it takes to tell it, thus enabling the owner to put them in an ordinary trunk when traveling, and also allows of having as many barrels of all the different calibers of rifle and shot barrels as may be desired, only one stock and breech-piece being required for them all."
